I t had been a long day, and Jacob was exhausted. Patrolling by himself the border between Forks and La Push, keeping an eye on the influx of vampires in the area. He knew why there had been an increase in bloodsuckers, it was understandable that the Cullens were looking to pick up numbers, but did they really have to get so close to the border? The smell got right up his nose, especially in wolf-form, sickly sweet. It gave him a near-constant headache. But this had been the agreement, and despite their indifferences – if it kept Bella safe, it was worth it. Running the last few lengths of border, Jake kept his wolf senses focused on everything around him. The birds were quiet – sensing new predators in the area no doubt. There was a slight breeze that rustled his russet fur gently, but otherwise the forest was still. It was eerily still…unnatural. Something was up – but Jake couldn’t work out what. Taking a deep breath, Jacob sighed and slowed his stride. He caught the familiar scent of Jasper Cullen, next to take a shift patrolling the border from their side. So many procedures in place, at least this meant he was free to take a break – twelve hours running circles on high alert had taken it out of him and he was looking forward to crashing out, probably for another solid twelve hours. Phasing from wolf-form into his human self, Jacob rolled his shoulders and cracked his back. That was better, though slightly strange being back on two legs again. He went on a hunt for his shorts, having left them hidden behind a tree out of sight. It wasn’t that he cared what anyone thought, but wandering walkers may get the wrong idea about La Push if they came across him completely starkers. He chuckled to himself as he searched, realising he was more worried about what strangers would think of a butt-naked Jacob over an unnaturally large wolf. Slightly worried, Jacob moved over to the next tree – wondering if he’d got the location slightly off. He swore he’d hidden them here, but perhaps…in his tiredness…he’d misjudged slightly. Frowning now, all humour gone, he stood bewildered. Where had he put them? He had gone through enough pairs of shorts at the start, when he had not been in control as much as he was now he had phased far too often whilst still wearing clothes. Never an ideal move. Billy wouldn’t be impressed.

◄ NAKED JACOB IS THE BEST JACOB There were so many different scents and sounds throughout not only the town of Forks, but the encompassing forest. It was enormous, stretching for miles in every single direction - but as Saxa found herself wandering, exploring, she came across one of the worst scents she'd ever experienced. It wasn't musky, as she liked, but almost like a gigantic dog had been swimming in the sea and was now laying out in the sun to dry."What on Earth is that?" Saxa said to herself as he ran, following the scent out of curiosity. She had to know where it was emanating from, and she wasn't going to stop until she had.Eventually she came to a single tree among many that seemed to stand out. It wasn't because of its particularly emerald leaves or the decoration of moss surrounding the trunk, but because this tree out of the thousands in this part of Washington was the bearer of a pair of shorts. It was extremely odd, and despite attempting to stifle a giggle, Saxa couldn't help herself. She picked them up with the tip of her index finger and thumb, turning them over as if they would somehow illuminate the burning questions that were beginning to bug her. Then of course the vibrations beneath the ground began, and the scent, far stronger than that of the shorts, grew closer, more intense. Immediately seizing the opportunity to gain an upper hand with the element of surprise, Saxa pressed a light food on the base of the tree and sprang herself upwards. She landed delicately on one of the highest branches, crouching back slightly as she waited - and then it came. A wolf, far larger than any she had ever observed, and then it simply disappeared. It was substituted for a muscular boy, no older than sixteen, who stretched and fumbled about the base foliage for something - and it was only a second later that Saxa look at her hands and found that the pair of shorts were still clutched in her grasp."Oh, sorry, I think these are yours!" Saxa called down to him, any regard for her own safety completely gone. She didn't particularly like the idea of being torn to shreds clasped within the jaw of a wolf, but what the hell, she liked to lived dangerously.

J acob was becoming slightly more frustrated, he swore he had left them here - and he was growing increasingly worried that there would be a couple of hikers appearing in the surrounding area any second. It wasn’t a completely horrific day which meant plenty of people would be taking to the forest for a day out. Not to mention, he really, really wanted to get back home and sleep…nothing would be better than bed right now. Cursing under his breath, Jake sighed…close to giving up on the whole thing. The sing-song voice that came from above startled Jake for a second. He looked up and saw the bloodsucker sitting there, waving his shorts around like a flag. Great. How had he missed her. Jumping quickly behind the tree next to him, Jacob growled, he hated being caught off-guard. He sniffed the air around him, there wasn’t a trace of her scent to be found…well that was annoying. He thought quickly, wondering how best to settle this. “You know, you’re in a fairly dangerous position right now,” he said, not bothering to raise his voice knowing full well she could hear him. “You’re over the border line, meaning you’re fair game for us,” he narrowed his eyes and grinned. Maybe she wasn’t fully aware of the protocol when it came to the border, but if she was any friend of the Cullens, surely they’d have filled her in. “You have two choices, either chuck those down here and I’ll let you off with a warning…or risk me coming up to get them…in my other form” It wasn’t like Jake to be bargaining with a bloodsucker, but right now he wasn’t exactly in the best position to do anything else. Knowing full well how they worked - he would likely be in bigger trouble faster than he was able to phase. He waited patiently, not taking his eyes off her for one moment. Goddamn these strange bloodsuckers, he wasn’t about to annoy the Cullens by taking out one of their friends.

◄ NAKED JACOB IS THE BEST JACOB Saxa couldn't help but release a sing-song chuckle, immediately descending against the trunk of the tree. She was less than an inch away from the wolf's face, her delicate breath undoubtedly tickling his nostrils. She listened to him speak and watched as he retreated, her eyes squinting to admire the slight blush beneath his cheeks - what a peculiar creature.
"Oh, come on, I'm new to town. I can't be aware of all of the rules on my first day," Saxa moved closer to the stranger, dangling his shorts amusingly as she watched him growing increasingly frustrated. When the shorts did finally leave her grasp, she took an elegant leap backwards and sighed. "There, happy?" Without paying too much attention to the contradiction of her words, Saxa made an exaggerated movement with her booted foot, tracing a line in the dirt - "I think you'll find we are now on our rightful sides of the border."
Saxa mockingly pouted but cleared her throat shortly after. "I do apologise, I didn't want to offend anyone. My name is Saxa, and it's very nice to meet you." Saxa offered up her politest smile and her hand, one eyebrow raised to see if the wolf would take it.

H er laugh was as high-pitched as her voice…like all the others he’d met it sounded ridiculously melodic! Jake rolled his eyes as he watched her jump elegantly down from the tree above. SO typical of a bloodsucker - great big massive show-offs. The scent that radiated from her made his nose wrinkle in disgust. He really should be getting used to the sickly sweet scent that came from many of the vampires he’d crossed paths with - but really it was just too much! He felt the temperature rise in his cheeks. “You should have been told this one, it is fairly important,” he replied, watching her as she moved closer to him. He grabbed his shorts as she dangled them in front of him, and quickly pulled them on. Jacob hated not having the upper hand! “Thanks,” he said gruffly, “You’re lucky it was me this time, anyone else and you may have had a fight on your hands,” Jake was being blunt, sure, but it was true. He understood the situation more than, say…Paul - that dude would fly off the handle the second a strange vampire stepped foot over the border. Watching her draw the line in the dirt with her foot, he couldn't help but raise an amused eyebrow at her. “Ha, okay…fair enough.” Jacob nodded, at least she had a sense of humour - most of the vampires - Edward in particular - were dry. Well, with good reason at present, but honestly the guy should learn to laugh a little bit more! “Saxa…” He scoffed a little, “and where in the world are you from Saxa?” Hands down the oddest name he’d ever come across, and he lived in La Push! “Jake…Jacob Black,” he returned, folding his arms across he chest and leaning against the tree next to him. This was going to probably take a fair bit of time so he figured he may as well get himself comfy. “So, Saxa…what brings you to Forks? I note you aren’t like the Cullens…you are hopefully aware we don’t take kindly to your little diet around Forks or La Push.” He was quick to get that in there before disappearances and unexplained deaths started increasing in the area…

◄ NAKED JACOB IS THE BEST JACOB Saxa wasn't one for rules, but that didn't mean she enjoyed breaking them. On her part, it had been somewhat of an innocent mistake - how was she to know that between the identical trees, fallen pine needles and dirt there was an invisible line - but she appreciated that they couldn't exactly throw up signage stating the boundaries of shifters and vampires.
When the mysterious wolf boy mentioned the important rule once more, she smirked. "I promise that I, Saxa Vanguard, shall solemnly swear not to cross over the invisible and totally difficult-to-see border," she paused and raised two fingers, similar to a girl scout, "unless you decide to invite me." With another wink, Saxa began pacing back and forth. The boy reminded her of a simpler time, of her human life where all she had to worry about was school and trying not to come off as too flirtatious with the questionable men - but of course, not doing so had made it all the more fun when she had become a vampire and could in fact flirt to her hearts content.
"Well in that case, Mr. Black, I'm very relieved that it was your shorts that I found-" another brief pause, another smirk, "that's not a wolfy thing, is it? You don't all leave your potent belongings around in the hopes that a vampire comes across them, do you? Note that I said potent and not smelly, let's not lose our heads, or our human physiology." For some reason it was relieving to be around somebody that while bound to some very obvious oath to kill vampires on sight, was easy to talk to. The Cullen's had been very welcoming, but very cliché in their reaction to a blood drinking vampire entering the town lines.
"Also, little wolf, I'm from Britain. Or, I was, a long time ago." Her eyes trailed off for a moment, no doubt remembering her life as a farm girl. "And you can rest assured that I won't be drinking from the pretty necks of jocks. I'm strictly blood banks only - now I know what you're going to say, that it isn't any better than tearing open humans, but donated blood is still donated nonetheless."

I t wasn’t like Jake had written the rules - heck he was all about breaking the rules more often than not these days! Sam would definitely vouch for that, after all - Jake had broken from the pack to go against their wishes and help the Cullens with their…problem. But still, he didn’t want to have to answer to them should vampires, like this one, flitted carefree between the two. That was something they wouldn’t take well, not at all. Jacob frowned at her fairly sarcastic little performance, a bit taken aback by her slightly flirty behaviour. She did realise they were meant to be mortal enemies…right? “Uhhh….” he paused for a moment, a little lost at what to say. “Not sure I’d be the most popular if that were to happen…” he wasn’t only thinking of the pack members he’d so abruptly abandoned, but also Bella - the girl he’d chosen whole heartedly to protect. He shot her a quick, sheepish smile before feeling his puzzled expression fall back into place. “I try and save people the sight of a naked guy wandering around the forest, especially on days like today…ginormous wolves are one thing,” he rolled his eyes, bloodsuckers - they didn’t understand humans weren’t entirely used to seeing the abnormalities of the world. “And careful who you call potent, you’re not exactly subtle yourself.” Jacob wrinkled his nose again and glowered at her, he was very careful not to offend her but the stink radiating from her was quickly giving him a slightly headache. He drew a steady breath through his mouth, trying to lessen the effect it was having. In all the time he’d known the truth, Jake had never pictured being comfortable enough to sit…well…stand and chat to a bloodsucker. It surprised him. A growl escaped his lips, he hated being called little, “Little? Ha!” Jacob scoffed, he’d been one of the biggest in the pack. Nodding in approval, Jacob held his hands up defensively, “hey, I’m not one to judge, I’m trying to save you the hassle of dealing with the rest of my lot,” she seemed cool - he’d hate for the others to get the wrong idea about her. “Where in Britain did you come from?” he grinned “Lan-dan?” Jake tried his best ‘British’ accent - which of course was a total fail.
