It had been a while since Alice had felt that she and Jasper could leave the Cullens' house, or their boundaries, for that matter. With what had happened in Volterra, and then the choice made by Bella that had been devastating to Edward, Alice hadn't wanted to leave home, in case something happened. If she saw anything in the future, Alice wanted to be home to tell the rest of the family. With Bella in Jake's company, Alice had found it harder to see Bella's future, or much of anything regarding her former hopefully-sister's future. It was a concern, because Alice knew that there were ways to eliminate a human who knew too much about the vampire community, and Bella was, unfortunately, no exception to the rule in the eyes of the Volturi. Alice had been keeping an eye out for the decisions of the Volturi, but had seen nothing more than maybe a glimpse of Caius or Jane or one of the other Guard members. They were still enforcing the vampire rules of not revealing the vampire existence to outsiders, and Alice had long since tried to shut out the destruction. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. But for now, her focus was on family.
And that included the pixie Cullen's beloved True Love and dearest husband. Having decided that things were quiet enough for the time being, Alice and Jasper had slipped away to Port Angeles to one of the restaurants for a date, just the two of them. It was nice, being dressed up in a midnight blue evening gown that bore a scattering of twinkling Swarovski crystals that sparkled like stars in a midnight sky. She didn't often choose the slim fit and long-skirted dresses, but tonight was a special occasion, and this was a formal restaurant, after all. What better excuse was needed to dress up? Looking across the table at her beloved Jasper, smiling softly as she watched his golden eyes survey the others who were dining here. His curiosity about them, and his interest in the atmosphere and the feelings in the air were almost palpable. And he seemed to be glad to be surrounded by peaceful and relaxed people; it was probably a much-needed break from the stress and worry and tension he usually faced. Reaching across the table, Alice clasped his hand in hers, smiling with the love she always feels for him shining in her golden eyes. This was nice..a quiet night out. [googlefont=Righteous][googlefont=Vast Shadow] If this is to end in fire we should all burn together He and his brothers had been waiting, some more patiently than others, for word that Isabella had been turned ever since she and the Cullens left Volterra. As of yet, they'd heard no such thing. In fact, if Victoria was to be believed the human had turned her back on her former vampire love in favor of a werewolf. Did she think she could escape their judgement by doing so? Caius would be beyond ecstatic to order the deaths of her new lover and his pack. These wolves would not be able to save her if he heard what she was doing. Alice's had miraculous timing in showing her vision in Volterra. He had not wanted to kill them back then, but the law left him little choice since Edward was so against changing Isabella. Alice had given him the out he needed to let them leave alive, with the guarentee that Edward's human mate would be changed soon. Sadly, it seemed that the vision had not been as much of an assurance as he'd led his brothers to believe. What seemed like a love story in their homeland had turned into a tragedy. He'd meant it when he said happy endings were rare. It was such a shame, but the Volturi could no longer abide their most sacred law being broken by Isabella and the Cullen coven. Which was why he'd taken a small detour to Forks after dealing Ruth a nearby coven's actions. All things considered, he wouldn't have been surprised if Alice had warned them of his impending arrival already, which was why he was a little surprised when Demetri tracked her to a restaurant. Perhaps he had thought too much of her abilities. He entered the restaurant calmly, motioning for all but Renata to wait outside, and had a quick word with the hostess, claiming to be a family friend who wanted to surprise Alice. It was easy enough to convince her, and it didn't take long to find the couple afterward. "Alice, how wonderful to see you again. May we join you?" He asked lightly, smiling as if nothing made him happier than running into her. Notes and things can go here

It was almost like that sixth sense people joke about, while others take it quite seriously, the sensation that came over Alice, like one would get when cool shade suddenly comes or a draft of chilled air; however, that was usually a physical manifestation, found mainly in humankind. To Alice, it was a fleeting glimpse of a vision, barely there at all, before she heard his voice. Jasper was like a statue, his hand clasped around hers still, but she could sense he was testing the atmosphere, leveling emotional fluctuations if necessary. In Alice's case, it may or may not have been, she felt calm and portrayed as such, but inside her head she was searching for anything that might have hinted at this unexpected guest, who just so happened to be the head of the 'governing body', so to speak, of the vampire world. She hadn't seen him coming. Of course, if it had been a last-minute spur of the moment thing, it would explain her lack of visions. However, even the explanation didn't settle agitated nerves. The Volturi made her uneasy, she had never had a quarrel with authority in any fashion, apart from those in her human past; but that was another venture down a 'rabbit hole' she didn't wish to take at the moment. Her attention needed to remain here and now, on the current situation.
Unexpected as their guests' presences might be, Alice did not lose her manners. Looking to Jasper to silently affirm he was okay with third, Alice looked to Aro (and Renata) and nodded, gesturing with her free hand to two chairs the server quickly brought over.
"Please, by all means, join us. We would be honored, Aro."
She felt Jasper squeeze her hand lightly, ever so subtly, and though she didn't take her eyes off of Aro, Alice knew without looking that Jasper was being reassuring. She knew he could sense her repressed anxiety, and she felt a warm glow inside her at knowing he was with her and wouldn't be separated from her willingly; she felt the same way for him. They were connected by a deeper love and understanding than most would ever know or imagine; and she would never leave him. Jasper added his greeting to their new dining couple and then remained silent, his attention on the group even as he gauged the atmosphere around them and in the restaurant, keeping things even and relaxed. Alice took a sip of her drink before speaking to Aro, her golden eyes searching his red ones.
"What brings you here to Port Angeles, Aro? Did you want a change of scenery? It's not often you are found away from home, is it?" You're my Forever template by Sammy @ Adox 2.0

[googlefont=Righteous][googlefont=Vast Shadow] If this is to end in fire we should all burn together Perhaps she was slipping. It was clear by the look on her face that she hadn't seen them coming. Could she block her visions out? Was that why she was so caught off guard? He would love to ask her about her gift in more detail, but given the reason he'd come here in the first place she surely wouldn't take such inquiries well. No matter how surprised she was though, her manners didn't falter. As expected of Carlisle's daughter. Her father had always been well-mannered, even in the most stressful situations, a trait that Edward sadly hadn't picked up based on their time together in Volterra. Oh, he'd been perfectly polite when he first came to them, begging for death, but as soon as Isabella entered the picture he became much more agitated. Alice came straight to the point, quickly asking what had brought them here. "Merely investigating an informant's claim about an immortal child. Since we were already in the area, it seemed only right to pay my dear friend's family a visit." He said jovially. To pay them a visit, and to see what they intended to do now that Isabella had forsaken her former lover. So this was the husband Alice mentioned in Volterra, the reason she'd cited fit not joining their coven. They looked like a good couple, though neither seemed too thrilled to see Aro or Renata. Not very surprising, all things considered. "Will you not introduce us, dear Alice?" He asked looking from Jasper to his mate. Seeing them both like this made it obvious they came from very different backgrounds. Alice was a chatty, pixie-like creature, who reminded him a bit of his own sister when she was happy, while Jasper was a quieter person whose scars were impossible to miss. How has these two come together? That was a question for another day. "So, how is our good friend Isabella. I trust she and young Edward have worked out all of their problems?" He asked. He already knew the answer thanks to their informant, but he was curious to see what Alice would say about the matter. Would she dare to tell them the truth, and subject her family to whatever punishment was meted out, or would she lie and try to cover up what happened, knowing that he could find out himself from reading her thoughts? Alice was calm, polite, exuding her pixie attitude and socialization, even if she had appeared shaken. She knew that Aro too could probably pick up her anxiety and surprised state of being. So she buried it, forced the negative emotions down, tucked them away, and focused on the present. She was here with Jasper, and Renata and Aron's unexpected arrival would not shake her up. Even if she had gotten a wary sense about the Volturi leader when she and Edward faced him in his throne room in the defense of Bella. Even now, she couldn't forget the rather icky possessive sense she bad felt. But that was not important right now. Alice sipped from her glass, nodding to the waiter as he cleared away empty dishes and refilled glasses, and waited as he offered the new dining guests to take their orders for drinks. "Merely investigating an informant's claim about an immortal child. Since we were already in the area, it seemed only right to pay my dear friend's family a visit."
Alice's eyes went round at Aro's words. An immortal child? Surely he joked.. One did not simply turn a child into a vampire. It was dangerous, foolish..and of course, absolutely and without question against the rules. Children turned from humanity couldn't develop, could never progress to the understanding of maturity, they could not be reasoned with or controlled. Of course, she only knew this from Carlisle, and from a long-past discussion with her cousins in the Denali coven. They had seen first and foremost what occurred. And everyone knew the consequences; the Volturi were devastatingly final in their retribution of such acts. To Alice, however, the idea of turning a child was just barbaric; to take away the joy and innocence of childhood..unthinkable. She swallowed, a human nervous habit; she had seen parts of the destruction of covens, before she had focused on other things. It wasn't worth it, destruction for a single act of the unthinkable. Why would anyone believe a child would belong in vampire life.. It wasn't right.
"Will you not introduce us, dear Alice?"
Alice broke from her thoughts and nodded to Aro's words, clearing her throat.
"Of course! Aro, Renata, please meet my husband Jasper. Jasper, this is Aro and Renata."
She smiled, squeezing Jasper's hand as he stood and nodded respectfully to both of the introduced vampires and extended a hand to each of them. Alice watched, proud of her husband and charmed by his respectful Southern manners; though that was only part of why he was so dear to her. After everyone was seated again, Alice looked to Aro as he asked...a very difficult question to answer. She knew better than to lie, that was far too obvious and a stupid move. It was also rude to make assumption that lying would be any good; lying never did anyone any good, in the end. But she couldn't just straight up out her family, her beloved ones. Yet, there was a point made here, one she knew for certain. And this thought was true and honest, wouldn't hide anything. It was a fact Alice was certain of in truth and honesty.
"Bella..is having a difficult time deciding what she wants. For now, she is taking time away from our family...and the future we spoke of is uncertain at the moment. I'm not sure what she will do, but I have no doubt she will do her best for what is best."
It was the truth. Alice had faith in Bella, though where her decisions might lead, Alice was no longer able to foresee the path, as Bella was now surrounded by the wolves. Her golden eyes reflected her clear answer, but it also showed she was being careful, with every right. If Aro wanted to check her thoughts, he was welcome to. She had nothing to hide. [googlefont=Righteous][googlefont=Vast Shadow] If this is to end in fire we should all burn together He did not blame her for her surprise. The law against the creation of immortal children was a necessary one. Unlike those who were turned at older ages, immortal children could not be taught to control their thirst. When they were thirsty they drank, often much more than their fill. In ancient times it had been easier to conceal their existence, and the aftermath of their tantrums. Once the child was disposed of they could simply burn the bodies left over from his or her meal and blame it on a killer or outburst of plague. With the rise of technology though, they couldn't count getting away with that in modern times. Thankfully, the couple who created the child has at least been smart enough not to let him out of their sight, and now they would not need to worry about him ever again. Still, they really did need to find someone who was good with technology to keep a look out for anything that could reveal their kind on the internet. Someone other than their secretaries that is, they never seemed to last very long anyway. It seemed that more than one of Carlisle's children had inherited his impeccable manners. He bowed slightly in response to Alice's introduction. "How nice to finally meet Alice's beloved." He said, eyes shining with delight. "I confess, I have been curious since you mentioned him in Volterra my dear." He mentioned to Alice. So this was the empath. Fascinating. His joyful demeanor fell as Alice revealed that Bella was taking time away from the Cullens. He'd doubted the accuracy of her vision back in Volterra, but due to both Edward and Marcus' thoughts it had never occurred to him to doubt the strength of their relationship. "Che peccato. I had hoped…but it seems young Edward will have to wait a little longer fit his happy ending." He said mournfully. If only things had turned out differently, they probably wouldn't be having this conversation. Whether Isabella chose this path willingly or not was no longer relevant, not in the eyes of their laws. Alice had made the conscious decision to bring Bella with her on her quest to save her brother, and Bella had agreed. Even if she couldn't see the future, as a vampire over a century old, and Carlisle's daughter besides there was no excuse for her to not have an idea of the way that their encounter with the Volturi would go. Yet she'd brought her along anyway, and now she and her family would have to abide by their ruling or face dire consequences. "Regardless of Isabella's choice however, the law remains clear. You and your family chose to reveal our world to her dear Alice, so by law she must be either turned or killed. You promised us that you would abide by this law when you left Volterra, and we will not wait forever." He said, sounding like an uncle scolding his niece for going against her word. Their patience would not last forever. Notes and things can go here

The pixie Cullens knew full well the rules that were in danger of being broken, as well as the dire and inevitable repercussions of the consequences that would descend should the law truly be broken, or viewed as such. It would not take more than one incident with a human to bring destruction and ruin; however, Alice felt this was not the case with Bella. She was only a teenager, hardly having seen the world or even had a chance to live in it, really. Bella was not one to go talking to others and giving away secrets; but the Volturi (and others) would most likely not see things this way. The Cullens trusted Bella, had welcomed her as part of the family, and even though Bella had chosen the Shiftier, despite everything that had transpired in the past year with her separation (forced) from Edward, and the entire Cullen family, as well as Bella being the only one able to stop Edward from committing an act of blatant disobedience of the Volturi laws (and on their doorstep on top of that) and thus committing suicide by pushing the Volturi to destroy him, and then hers (Alice) and Edward's intervening on Bella's behalf to prevent her death at the hands of the Volturi, Alice still felt they had to protect the human...and hope that she would return. And if not; Well, Alice knew the coven could come up with something. Alice absently observed Jasper and Aro's interactions as she continued to consider the serious matter. Whatever were they to do? At Aro's words of lamenting Edward's loss of a 'happy ending' and his scolding, older relative type tone, Alice's golden eyes locked on Aro, and she knew exactly what he was talking about. She had taken a risk in bringing Bella, but none of them had planned on actually encountering the Volturi in any part, let alone being taken to the Volturi Throne Room. That had not been expected, and once she (and Edward) knew they were headed to the leaders for an encounter, there had been nothing more they could do but resign themselves to the fact that their 'human friend' would be revealed.
Alice also found this 'issue' ironic... The Volturi kept humans, secretaries and the like who knew the secret of vampire existence, and yet they forced the rule of no human knowing the existence of the vampire world on the rest of the vampires. Irony in its finest form, indeed. Alice knew in her heart Bella would never betray them; but the Volturi would not stand for broken rules, or no answers. Time was ticking away; Alice would have to find answers. She had seen in her visions that day in the Throne Room Bella as one of them, as a family member, newest part of their coven. And the decision Bella made when choosing Jacob instead had blindsided Alice, and devastated her big brother. It was definitely not true of the saying 'All's Fair in Love and War'. Someone always lost, someone always won. And there was suffering, too. So then..what would they do now?
Keeping her manners and composure, with no hesitation or doubt, Alice answered Aro's admonishment.
"I understand your concerns, Aro, and please be assured I will do my fullest to ensure the rules are not broken. These things take time, as you surely can understand, especially with the young ones. Please grant me this time, if it is not asking too much on your behalf. Bella would not betray the vampires, she would not tell our secrets. I know this to be absolutely sure."
She knew that this may not change the endgame result, but she hoped it would appease Aro, and delay judgment. But there was one thing she needed to know: how much time would they be allowed? You're my Forever template by Sammy @ Adox 2.0
