♔Death came in many shapes and forms, it was strange to her still, to be cured, to be healthy, and most importantly to be alive. She was literally at death’s door, she had considered asking Dr. Cullen to end her life at one point. The reason being that she saw the suffering on her parents faces, the waiting for her to die was hurting them, and she did not like to hurt them. The waiting to die was more painful than the actual pain itself, always wondering which breath would be her last, always wondering if she would have a chance to say goodbye to those she loved most in the world.
Sometimes she would walk around in the forests barefoot, as she was doing right now, she was liked to feet the Earth beneath her feet, it gave her a sense of belonging. She did not know if she would get used to the smells, to the way her senses were heightened due to being a shifter now, she was also hot all the time. Her mother lamented that she could never tell if Nova had a fever from illness or not anymore. But she grinned, knowing her mother was happy that her daughter was not dying. She knelt down just to brush her hands through the grass and the brush, she wanted to touch everything.
The ability to be able to be outside without risking infection or death due to a weakened immune system was amazing to her. When she heard a twig snap underfoot, she froze for a moment, as she turned her head, "Hello..." That cheerful smile going into place, after all, she was not afraid of anything, she escaped Death after all.

J acob sniffed the air, it was cool - a light mist falling from the low cloud that covered the sky. It wasn’t very often he found himself in Forks forest - here he couldn’t really be ‘himself’, he was limited with his actions - although his services to the Cullens meant he had a bit more power than Sam and the others. Still, he wandered in human form through the trees - enjoying being on two feet instead of four. He was considering stopping at Bella’s, waiting for her there until she finished school. Charlie wouldn’t be around for a while so they’d have some time to just…chill. He nodded, that was a good plan. Turning on his heels, he heading in the direction of her home, keeping his wits about him. So many strange vampires were passing through La Push and Forks that it was beginning to become a task knowing who you could trust and who was here to push the boundaries. Jake found himself thinking over the events that had brought them to this particular moment in time, so much had happened, so much was changing, he really couldn’t believe that only a year ago things were simple. He was just a normal boy, attending school and rebuilding cars and bikes in his spare time. This whole supernatural world was hidden from him. Yeah, things had definitely changed. A lot. As he came to a clearing, Jake noticed a figure up ahead. He froze, carefully observing the girl in the distance…she wasn’t a vampire, he’d be able to tell from the smell. No, she had a heartbeat…was she human? He approached with caution, hoping not to freak the girl out - the last thing he wanted was for someone to report a psycho in the woods. He stepped forward carefully, but as he did a twig snapped in the undergrowth. She turned to face him, a smile spreading across her face. What the hell? Jake stood still for a moment, before standing up steadily and giving a half-hearted smile back. “Um, hi?” He was a little bewildered by her appearance, “you know, you’re pretty far from the trail and it’s not exactly safe out here…” He leant against the tree next to him and folded his arms.

♔Sometimes she wondered if this was all a dream, if she was actually dead and she was just dreaming, or maybe in a coma and dreaming. She was not sure, she brushed her fingers against the grass somewhat, she wanted to feel everything, she wanted to experience life, but she glanced towards Jake, still smiling, he did become handsome. From what she was told, he should have been the Alpha in the first place, his great-grandfather was chief.
She shook her head, an amused look on her face. ”I am not afraid of cold ones, if that is what you’re worried about Jake.” She blinked a bit, she looked thoughtful, as she sighed softly, glancing from him, a few dark strands of her hair fell into her face. ”I apparently got the same gene as you, despite me being only half Quileute. A wolf I became...” She brushed her tongue along her bottom lip lightly, as she sighed a bit, ”Did you know Nova means new? I feel brand new…”
And it was strange, it was not a secret really that Nova was dying, she stood up though, healthy now, ”Hearing the pack’s thoughts… it is… very… strange. They don’t like the Cullens. But … I like Dr. Cullen. He was very sweet to me. So I am conflicted, despite knowing what he is. I care about him and his family. They’re not bad.” She realized she was rambling, but she was not used to talking with most people anymore, she was a bit awkward socially, spending most of her time with people older than her, so someone around her age was nerve-racking to her.

T he use of his name threw him completely, how did she know him? He studied her face, it wasn’t one Jake recognised. Did she live in Forks? Was she one of the many kids that had thrown themselves at Bella, trying to reap the benefits of her popularity like that Jessica girl had? He blinked at her, his face falling a little as he tried to figure the connection out. She also seemed to know of the legends, and that was something guarded by every member of the tribe. How on earth did she know about any of it. “I, er…sorry, do I know you?” He shook his head a little, how did she already know so much? He watched her carefully from a distance, wondering whether it was actually safe to be here. And then her explanation carried on…ah! Like that, the penny dropped. Nova…she’d been a friend of his as a kid, but something had happened and she’d gone away. He didn’t know all the gory details, but Jake pulled out vague memories he had of her. So she was one of them? That was something he hadn’t expected. “Nova!” The tone of his voice was excited, and a little surprised, “where have you…what did you…how?!” He moved over to where she stood, a big grin stretching across his face at the welcome surprise. Frowning a little, he listened to her little speech on the Cullens…for a start he hadn’t realised she’d been a part of Sams pack at all, but also…she knew the Cullens? “Wait, you’re connected to Sam?” This was a lot for him to take in, he shook his head again and sighed, “they won’t ever like the Cullens, I don't particularly but I have agreed to help them…for now.” Jake shrugged and thought about whether or not he should go into details, though - if Nova knew of the Cullens she was bound to have an idea of the current situation. He laughed, “that’s why I’m a lone wolf, at the moment anyway…being my own Alpha makes sense you know?” He studied her face more, now knowing who she was. She was pretty, but stood out from the other girls on the res…he cringed internally, unsure what they would all make at this very sudden arrival.

♔She stared at him, almost hurt that he had forgotten her. ”Well, you used to know me…” She did not know how well he did know her back then, they were children after all, she had a different look than most of the girls on the reservation, only because she was half tribe so to speak, as she bit her bottom lip lightly. Once he registered who she was, she wiggled her nose a bit, as she sighed a bit, having to explain was really a pain in the ass sometimes. She did not know if Jacob would understand her at all, she knew none of the others did, especially Sam. She shuffled from one foot to the other, as she tried to think of how to explain it in the most precise manner as possible.
”I got sick. Cancer. I was dying. Literally at death’s door, then… I got hot. And one night just… shifted. It cured me. It just … killed the cancer. I’ve been on the Reservation, just in the house, my immune system was too weak to venture out too much. I went to see Dr. Cullen a lot, despite my Dad knowing who he is, what he is. Because he was desperate to save me. He was very kind to me, Jacob. He gave me hope, he helped me cope… I can’t be against him or his family. Which puts me at odds with Sam and the others.”
And that hurt her heart a little, because she did owe Dr. Cullen, she owed him for pushing her not to give up, like he almost knew that she would shift soon, or that he hoped that she would. Either way she was grateful to him, and she almost winced, knowing Sam would probably yell at her for such thoughts. ”They are good people, Jake. Not cold ones. People. They are as much people as you and I. And yes I know there is conflict… but… I don’t want to hurt the Cullens. And I am afraid Sam will make me do so. I want to go see the Cullens… I want to thank Dr. Cullen for everything he’s done. And let him know I am okay…”
Her request was soft, but it was honest, even now knowing somewhat was going on, she worried about the Cullens AND the tribe AND the population of Forks more so than herself. She was always that way, thinking of others before herself, as she blinked a bit, ”… Can I just… join you then?”

J acob smiled a small smile, he had very vague memories of her but they were so long ago – she hadn’t been around, outside, for years. A lot of the pack members probably hadn’t realised who she was until she’d phased and formed an immediate allegiance with Sam. Now things were a little bit more confusing, with Jacob taking off on his own the new wolves were having to choose. Although Jacob had done a good job of keeping his mouth shut – he wasn’t a natural leader and the fewer the better…or at least that’s what he thought. “I remember…” he muttered, nodding in her direction. He listened carefully as Nova explained the reason behind her extremely long absence. No one had known, and he was sure if Billy and the other elders had heard the family were visiting the Cullen’s for treatment, they definitely wouldn’t be best pleased. Families from La Push very rarely visited the hospital in Forks for that exact reason. “Sam will eventually work out things aren’t how they were when the original treaty was made.” Although Jacob agreed with the majority of the terms written within the treaty, there were definite points that we null and void. Jake himself wasn’t exactly the best advocate for ‘Team Cullen’ given his own experiences. It was a confusing situation that had forced his hand – placing him as top guard-dog for the family. He scoffed a little, “they aren’t technically people, even they’ll admit to that,” he was facing reality – they weren’t ‘alive’. Frozen in time. Never changing. People didn’t do that, people grew…changed, their hearts beating. Though he had to admit, the Cullens weren’t the worst of their kind. “Seeing the Cullens, especially at the moment, is tricky. Swinging by to say thank-you won’t be high on their priority list to be honest,” he knew the threat that loomed over the family, loomed over Bella. Really, receiving a thank-you from a wolf wouldn’t be important to them right now. His face blanched, her request was out of the blue…something Jacob hadn’t expected to hear. He wasn’t about being a leader, he didn’t want to tell others what they could and couldn’t do. Controlling was something he wasn’t very comfortable with. He made a face, grimacing slightly. “Um, I’m not exactly running a pack here…it is only me,” though Sam probably didn’t utilise her the way he should – when he’d been a part of Sam’s pack he hadn’t even noticed Nova…would Sam miss her? Rolling his eyes he gave a reluctant sigh, “Fine, I guess I could use the back-up. I won’t be throwing commands around though, so don’t expect much in the way of structure.”

♔She stared at him, because she did not mind being forgotten, that part did not bother her too much. It was being reborn, she was still finding her feet so to speak, finding out what she could do, and she bit her bottom lip, unable to help it. It was something she could not help, she was always one who would look after others more so than herself. ”Until then, he can make me hurt people that I don’t want to hurt. I don’t like that.”
She did not like being controlled or ordered, as she bit her bottom lip, she was trying to remain alive more than anything at the moment. Which was difficult to do with what she knew what was coming, she felt the ripples from Bella, and she read Sam’s thoughts and the others. She was stubborn though, she would not give up what she believed about the Cullens. ”They’re people to me… no matter who says they aren’t, including themselves. I am not hurting my friends or family for anyone.“ And she meant that, as she crossed her arms over her chest, as she walked around a bit, she could not help it, she had to move, she liked being able to move.
”I want to protect them, not just say thank you. But protect them too. I want to protect everyone.” And she wiggled her nose a bit, as a she glanced around the forest, she listened to Jacob and she smiled a bit. ”I know that. But I also know you won’t force me to hurt anyone I care about.” That was the point of joining his pack, he wouldn’t just order, he would understand, he would talk to them, not force them into something. ”I only expect you to be you, Jacob. And whatever comes… we all will deal with it.” She was positive that they would come out on top, she had hope still, as she brushed her tongue along her bottom lip lightly.

J acob felt uneasy at the way she stared at him, it wasn’t an offended look across her face…it was more a look of uncertainty, and Jake wondered how long she’d been like him. How much she knew, and if she’d figured out the whole wolf thing yet. “Sam wouldn’t force you to hurt the Cullens without good reason…” although he had left the pack with the intention to protect the bloodsuckers – something Sam himself hadn’t been too keen on. “But I agree, it’s not the best place to be for you – especially if you have those kind of feelings toward the Cullen’s.” In fairness, Jake tolerated them, but he didn’t really like them. Everything within him screamed against his decision, but he felt as though he had a duty to fill. Rolling his eyes, Jacob snorted and sighed – they weren’t people…perhaps they had been once, but he couldn’t see them for anything other than the parasites he always had done. The only thing he did now realise was that they felt. He’d seen Edward’s pain, it had been real that was for sure. “I’m not saying anything on this matter, we view things very differently when it comes to the Cullen’s I think…they’re not all they seem sometimes.” He didn’t like that the legends were true, that the Cullen’s had powers beyond they’re already immortal state. It put him on edge, although it made him feel better that the psychic one couldn’t see the pack, or their decisions. It gave him and Sam the upper hand. He narrowed his eyes at Nova, he wasn’t keen on how close she’d become. “You know, there are just the two of us…it’s like the impossible task.” He didn’t want to encourage her under false pretences. “I’m sorting out the boundaries with Edward…” Jake’s teeth gritted at the use of the bloodsuckers name, “and then I’ll have a bit more direction for you.” This was looking like it was going to be more of a struggle, but at least he would have some back up. “So, why are you out here anyway?” Jake was curious why she wasn’t on La Push land – somewhere she could have defended herself without breaking the treaty. He folded his legs and sat on the forest floor, leaning back on his hands in a relaxed stance.

♔She sighed softly, she just felt like the outsider overall, she felt like the weird one, like she was an outsider in the tribe, in the pack or packs, and even as a human being at times. She sat down slowly, as she set her hands in her lap, she brushed her tongue along her bottom lip slowly, and she kept her eyes on the ground for the time being. ”I am not too sure about that…” Sometimes she wondered if she would ever make sense to anyone, as she glanced to him, when he spoke about having feelings for the Cullens, so her temper flared up a little, because she did not see why it was such a big deal. And it was annoying her that people thought it was so wrong.
”What is wrong with having feelings for them? Aside from the fact that Bella almost became one of them… what do you really have against them, Jacob? What have they done to you specifically? To the tribe? Nothing. And I tell you another thing… Dr. Cullen worked hard, used almost every option to save me. I owe him my life, Jacob. That is why he is my friend, and why I have those feelings for them. All everyone ever does is make me feel the outsider. Like I don’t belong because I am not exactly like them. I don’t feel part of the tribe, or the pack… Carlisle and my parents make me feel normal. The rest of you don’t…” And that was the hardest thing to swallow, they all made her feel like she was a freak when she thought differently from them, and she wanted to curl up somewhere and hide.
She wanted to just go home and curl up with her mother, her mother could always make her feel better. When he mentioned that they had different opinion on the Cullens, she nodded a bit to him, acknowledging it. ”We do. And while I respect your opinion, I wish you’d respect mine as well. I trust Carlisle as much as I trust my own parents. He wouldn’t hurt anyone… “ And she would stick to her guns on that as much as possible, as she bit her bottom lip lightly, she closed her eyes, just trying to think, trying to explain herself. ”Nothing is impossible. I mean, Vampires aren’t supposed to exist, neither are shifters… the supernatural… and yet here we are. I was supposed to die, Jacob. I almost did… “
And she almost wanted to in a sense, she opened her eyes, as she stared over towards the trees, at the sunlight peeking through them, not knowing what he expected of her. ”I’m exploring… I’m taking in everything that I can. I was bedridden and sick for so long… now I just… I feel free. I want to touch everything, do everything I couldn’t before, go places without worrying about if this will be my last breath or not. Plus, I was going to head to the hospital… see Dr. Cullen.” She did not know if he could understand her on some level, but she was trying to explain it to him, she felt free to an extent, she felt alive and that was something she needed.
”I know what you said earlier. But you don’t understand, he’s my friend, Jacob. It won’t break the treaty, because like I said, he wouldn’t hurt me. Plus… it means our bond is closer now, since he doesn’t have to hide what he is from me anymore, and I don’t have to hide it from him. I remember you as a boy. Even then you were fearless… but still, no matter what, you always did the right thing. So as an Alpha… you’d still do the right thing, even if you do not agree with it. I have to look at things in the positive. But I will always have your back, Jacob… and the Cullens… and my parents. I haven’t met the rest of the Cullens, just Carlisle, but even my own father… he respects Carlisle and trusted him enough… despite knowing what he is, and my father phased a long time ago… knowing this, and knowing about each other… Carlisle still treated me. When it involves your child… I suppose one will do anything.”
She pushed herself up from sitting, as she paced a bit back and forth, she felt the need to explain herself, because she was trying to make sense of everything herself, but still be true to who she was as a person. ”I don’t expect anyone to understand how I feel. One can’t unless they’ve been on the brink of death themselves. I owe Carlisle a debt I can never repay, and he is my friend. Just as much as you are my friend… it doesn’t matter that we haven’t spoken or seen each other in years. You’re still my friend. And I will protect my friends because… I can now. I can protect people now. I can fight… “
