| I t had been almost twenty-four hours since Bella had gotten back from Italy, and yet Jacob still felt a little unsettled about her whole decision. Had it been rushed, or a knee-jerk reaction to the whole ordeal? Had she changed her mind? Nothing felt certain to him - at least, not until he saw her again. He paced the length of the small lounge, wondering exactly what it was he was meant to do. Was he meant to go to her? Or should he give her space…time…? Frowning a little, Jacob sighed and glanced out the window. The cloud was low, threatening rain - it was normal for the weather to be grey and gloomy, today in particular he felt it was reflecting his mood. The four walls surrounding him started to make Jake feel a little claustrophobic, he needed to get out and get some fresh air. Not that he knew where he was going to go or what he was going to do - but getting out would be enough. He was sure Billy would appreciate it, Jake had been driving him mad over the past few hours with his troubles. Pulling on his sneakers, Jake grabbed a set of keys and headed out, “catch you later, Dad,” he called out before slamming the door shut behind him. Trudging up the track, Jacob headed into the main part of the reservation. It was small, too small sometimes - his sister Rebecca had seen the light and left the moment she had an opportunity. That opportunity would never come for Jacob - he had a duty to not only the people of La Push, but the people of Forks too. There were a couple of little stores, central to the reservation, that made life a little easier. The people of La Push rarely chose the venture into Forks, what with the legends that had been embedded into their minds from a young age. A little further up was the site that the elders would meet, it was open to the elements - a fire often burned brightly in the middle surrounded by make-shift benches, fashioned out of logs. Today, only a scorch-mark highlighted where the fire should be. Jake paused momentarily, weighing up the options. He didn’t want to head to First Beach - no doubt Sam and the guys would be there…and the forest wasn’t ideal, he didn’t know what lurked in the shadows…he also wasn’t keen on going to the local coffee shop, too many people, and Jake didn’t fully trust his mood yet. He wandered up to the make-shift benches and took a seat…there was no one around to bother him, he could be alone with his thoughts. Staring at a spot in the middle of the scorch-mark, where the fire usually sat, Jake gave in - losing himself to his inner monologue and switching off from his surroundings. La Push was one of the rare places he could switch off. |

I HAVE DIED EVERYDAY WAITING FOR YOU If someone had told Bella that she was about to change the way she thought her life would be, she probably wouldn’t have believed them. After having met Edward, she seemed clear cut to him being the one. But after he left her, disappearing into the day to leave her behind for reasons he believed to be protecting her, depression set in. For months on end she did nothing but sit around, barely going out and doing anything. But with a threat from her father, she used that to get closer to Jacob. And during that time, even after he changed and became what looked like a werewolf, she realized that she would forever be surrounded by the supernatural. But her trip to Volterra made her realize something, while she loved both Edward and Jacob, she loved someone more. People would believe that she would have turned towards Edward since she did drop everything to travel to Italy to save him, but she didn’t. The entire ride home, and the silence that filled the car between them, she realized that Edward wasn’t the one for her. The coldness that came from his body, how he could just leave her behind broken and alone, she realized that Jacob wouldn’t. And so, she ran, ran all the way to him and threw herself into his arms. That was twenty-four hours earlier, and she had yet to talk to anyone except for her father who was rather pissed off. He grounded her, at least, he tried to ground her. As he told her he wasn’t allowed to see the Edward kid, she quickly said that they had broken up. After that, he dropped the entire subject and left her on her own. Sitting in her room for the whole night, she thought things over. Had she chosen correctly? Had breaking Edward’s heart been the right thing to do? Had turning her back on the Volturi doomed them all? Aro’s words were clear, either she was turned, or she died, it was a simple request, but now…was it? She didn’t want to die, but she didn’t want to turn either, and while there had been a part of her that wanted more out of life, how she had thought that she was born to be a vampire, Jacob made her see that maybe she was being rash. Forcing herself into a relationship with the first person she met and then following the path that he leads forth, she hadn’t thought of herself. Edward was a vampire, and because of that, she had wanted to be one. So there she was, the morning sun having risen once again and she decided that maybe she should do something besides sit around and mop. While she thought about it, a part of her wanted to see Edward and try to explain herself, but she quickly figured that would be too awkward. She had always been the “suffer-in-silence type, ” and she was going to leave that alone, for now. Eventually, she and Edward would run into each other, and until then, she’d stay away to collect her thoughts. That left someone else, and as she thought about seeing Jacob for that tiny moment, a smile broke out on her face. Without even a word, it was decided. She grabbed the keys to her truck, dressed rather quickly and raced down the steps. Her dad was gone meaning her old beat up truck was all that was left in the driveway, and she quickly threw herself in and drove. Arriving at the Black residence, she knocked on the door and was met with Billy Black, Jacob’s father, and her father’s best friend, and she smiled rather awkwardly. “Is Jake home?” she asked but he was quick to turn her down, Jacob had left, but he had seen her heading in a general direction. She nodded her head in thanks and headed the way he pointed; it wasn’t long before she found him, thankfully and slowly she moved towards him. “Jake?” she questioned rather lowly. | J acob’s memories stretched far back to that first day Bella had turned up at his. She’d looked so lost and in a complete daze, zombie like almost. He’d chosen never to comment on it, knowing full well it would have done no good. From there, he had tirelessly worked to build her back up from the fragile state she’d been in, back to normality. Or at least what he’d thought was normal, the reality was that filthy bloodsucker had left her so damaged – she’d never quite been the old Bella again. That was the reason it had hurt him so much to watch her leave for Italy, and confused him even more the moment she’d ended up back in his arms the night of her return. Jake knew deep down she’d still been conflicted, but at least she’d come back. Having completely given into his thoughts, unaware of his surroundings, Jake hadn’t heard the approaching footsteps. Very rarely was he ever caught off-guard, but today was an exception. His heightened wolf senses were lost in the frustration of the unknown. Heck, if the bloodsucker crept up on him today to level the playing field, Jake was fair game…a sitting duck. It was only her soft voice, low and questioning, that pulled Jake away from his thoughts. Bella. He froze momentarily, suddenly wary of her presence. He never normally felt nervous around her, in fact she was the one person he could really be himself around. But today, today was different. Standing carefully from where he sat, Jake slowly turned to face her…not meeting her eye straight away. Something about her felt different, and he couldn’t put his finger on it but it had him on edge. “Bella…I…” he started, before meeting her gaze. That was it, suddenly something shifted and clicked into place. He froze, as an unfamiliar, yet welcome feeling washed over him. Gravity wasn’t holding him to the earth anymore, it was her. Bella. He felt overcome with the need, the want to protect her – to be with her, to be whatever she needed. Imprinting. He had heard about this feeling through the thoughts of others but he never imagine, firstly, that he’d feel like this. Secondly, he never thought Bella would be the one it’d happen with. Jake was so sure her heart belonged to the bloodsucker so entirely, but maybe that had changed? He studied her face for a moment, unsure of what to say straight away. She still looked like the same Bella, but something was different – it was as if he was seeing her clearly for the first time. Slowly, a wide grin spread across his face, Jake felt every muscle in his body relax, and he moved swiftly over to where she stood. Of course, it was down to Bella ultimately – he may have finally imprinted but Bella had the choice of accepting him…or rejecting him. So far, none of the shifters who had imprinted had been rejected, so no one knew what to expect if this happened. The thought crossed Jake’s mind and he stopped about a foot away from where Bella stood. He hesitated – looking at her for a sign. “Welcome home?” His voice was uncertain - but hopeful – as he spoke, opening his arms up – waiting to see if she accepted the embrace. “That was…the longest twenty-four hours of my life,” he let go of a breath he hadn’t realised he’d been holding. |

I HAVE DIED EVERYDAY WAITING FOR YOU For the past twenty-four hours, she had been asking herself the same thing over and over again. Had she chosen correctly? Had breaking Edward’s heart to turn her mind towards Jake destroyed something that could have been soulmates? Bella learned from a young age that soulmates didn’t exist, her mother and father were the keys to that. They had loved each other, had her and then turned down separate paths. Her mother remarrying, that just needed to have someone in her life. Maybe her mother was happy; maybe she was just doing it to have someone to love her, Bella would never know. But she thought about it, was it the same way with Edward? Had she truly loved him and he returned that love? Or was it a toxic game of fate that brought them together for Bella to realize just how toxic the vampire community and those within it was? They believed in mates, people that were their soulmates and meant to them the moment they were born. Each one had one, and for a short time, Bella thought that maybe she was that for Edward. But the moment he left her, broken and alone in the woods, which had been something someone destined for you should have never been able to do. When she thought about it, she didn’t believe Jake could ever do that to her. He’d never leave her alone, but a part of her wondered. She had heard something about imprinting, a little thing that the shapeshifters did towards one person, be it human or another shifter, but she had learned that Jake hadn’t found his. All that time she spent with him, she wondered if he would find his true imprint and leave her. Her heart seemed to break at that thought, but she thought about it more and more. If that would be the case in the future, she’d stumble through it then. For now, she’d live in the present and take it day by day. But at that moment, as Jake turned to her and met her concerned gaze, he looked different. He had a look in his eyes that seemed so far away; it scared her. “Jake? Are you alright?” she questioned in a small and concerned tone of voice. He seemed to look at her, just look at her, and it made her heart flutter slightly. She wasn’t being seen as food or being looked at as if she was fragile and breakable; she was being seen as if she were a person, an equal. It was something different from the gaze of Edward Cullen, and she found herself enjoying it. A smile, moments later, fluttered upon the young man’s face and she found herself returning it in her awkward way, and then it happened. He stood up, hesitant as he told her welcome home in a very uncertain voice. His arms opened, waiting for an embrace that Bella was more than happy to walk into, her arms wrapping around the warmth of his body. In contrast to Edward, the cold touch was replaced by a scolding hot one, and she found herself enjoying it a little more. She laughed against his chest as he told her it had been a very long passage of time that he had ever to endure, “I know what you mean,” she breathed lightly as she snuggled into the warmth. | T he feeling of imprinting was like no other, sure he’d experienced it through Sam’s thoughts – but in reality it was far beyond what he imagined. It made Jake feel whole again, complete. When he’d phased the first time, part of him had been missing – and although having Bella in his life had helped, it wasn’t all as it should have been. That was because deep down, he knew part of her still belonged to the bloodsucker. It had been part of the reason Jake carried so much anger, and frustration. It was like subconsciously he knew it was there, but he hadn’t been able to do anything about it. Now he could, he had, and everything in the world had just clicked. “I’m fine Bells, honestly…better than fine,” he grinned a wolfish grin as he eyed her carefully. He was in full control of his emotions, and regardless she would be safe with him now more than ever. As Bella approached him, wrapping her arms around him, Jake relaxed…the tension he’d been feeling about her choice was gone. She felt cool in his arms, like any normal human would against him. Not that it bothered him, it felt normal…natural. Thinking about how differently this could have gone sent a shiver down Jake’s spine. He wrapped his arms tightly around her, not wanting to let her go. “don’t stay away that long again…I don’t think I’d cope quite the same,” he chuckled, “I think Billy was planning on getting me restrained, or finding somewhere else to sleep,” thinking back over the past twenty-four hours of pacing back and forth waiting to hear something, anything. Jake was probably the best behaved wolf around – he knew how to control his temper and calm himself down, but even so…that kind of separation again would test him. He released her from his bear hug – a little reluctantly – and stepped back to take his seat on the logs around the scorch-mark, indicating for Bella to join him. He felt completely at ease and comfortable now, though he was going to have to explain to Bella about imprinting, they’d never gone into detail about it before…sure she’d met Emily, but the ins and outs of the relationship and ties between Sam and her had been kept under close guard. Mainly because Jake didn’t want Bella to feel that pressure, or clue on to what he had been secretly hoping for. Taking a stab in the dark, Jake guessed humans didn’t really feel it the same way as he had, it was definitely an animal thing. Jake knew he was smiling like a fool, it would be a while before this affect wore off – at least Billy would stop worrying about him. “So…I guess that’s what imprinting feels like,” his voice was soft and low – barely audible – but he knew Bella would hear him. He watched her with expectant eyes, waiting for her response. “Where’s your head been at Bells? I can’t imagine what you’ve been trying to…” he trailed off, suddenly wary of her feelings the same way he had before the bloodsucker had come back into their lives with a thump. He’d always observed the way she flinched at the mention of the Cullens before, Edward in particular. Would that have changed now? Now that things were different? Jake shifted a little. |

I HAVE DIED EVERYDAY WAITING FOR YOU ‘I’m fine Bells, honestly…better than fine, don’t stay away that long again…I don’t think I’d cope quite the same. I think Billy was planning on getting me restrained, or finding somewhere else to sleep,’Her arms were wrapped around him, had placed gently upon his chest. For once in her life, she felt safe and warm. Maybe she had once felt safe with Edward, but his cool arms wrapped around her own, minutes away from being able to crush her. Sometimes she felt like she was playing with a killer, dangling her life line before his grasp and waiting for him to attack. With Jacob, it was different. She didn’t know how to explain it, but it was. It truly was something that made her heart flutter, something that barely happened with Edward. Maybe she was just settling down with the idea of the first guy that showed interest; maybe it was because he was a challenge and mystery, perhaps she just wanted something to keep her here with Charlie. Who knows, but maybe she could find out. His arms tightened around her, and she smiled, “We wouldn’t want that, you not having a place to stay,” she said in a slightly muffled voice. And then he pulled back, taking the warmth with him, and the two sat down around where a fire would most likely have been placed. And that was when he said it, a word that she had heard many times and she took a double take. Eyes wide she looked at him before speaking, “Imprinting? You imprinted?” she questioned, swallowing slightly. She was happy; she wouldn’t have to worry about losing him. But what got her was the fact that it happened now, after she had chosen him, and not when he just liked her, and she was with Edward. What had changed to make it happen? And then came the questioning about where her head’s been, and she bit her bottom lip slightly, “Jake, I’m—I’m just worried,” she breathed out before looking at the scorch marks on the ground. “Being with Edward put his family at risk with the Volturi, they either want me dead or turned and now that I’m with you…I promised them I would turn and now I’m going against that promise.” MADE BY VEL OF GS [googlefont=Alegreya Sans SC:400]

| J acob felt a huge weight lift off his shoulders at her embrace. She ran at a cooler temperature to him, but it was a normal temperature. Human. He couldn’t even imagine what it would have been like had she stayed with the bloodsucker – the blood being drained from her body leaving her frozen and cold. It would have been unbearable. Jake listened to the slight fluttering beat of her heart, her loving human heart, and sighed. This is exactly what he needed, she was exactly what he needed. Letting out a light chuckle, he shook his head, “the forest floor isn’t all that appealing, and that would probably be my only option.” Jake felt his cheeks heat up at Bella’s reaction – he hadn’t expected that. Shrugging, he eyed her nervously and took a deep breath, “well…before, when he left, your heart was so closed…there wasn’t enough room I guess or something?” He paused for a second, trying to collect his thoughts, “I think…though I could be wrong…but perhaps your decision has impacted more than we all realised,” a grin spread across his face suddenly. “Well, you’re stuck with me now, huh?” Winking at her, Jake hoped that Bella would be alright with everything. It was going to be weird to start with, but he was certain together they could figure things out. Frowning as he listened to her explanation, Jake felt a shiver ripple down his spine. This didn’t sound good…on any counts. So the bloodsuckers had some sort of law it seemed, and the Cullens were now in breach of that because of Bella. Grabbing hold of her hand, “we can manage it…there will be a way around this I’m sure,” the tone of her voice was coloured with worry – but not for herself, “I’ll keep you safe, even if it means teaming up with the blood- I mean the Cullens,” rolling his eyes, Jake snorted, “heck, I’ll even be their personal guard dog…” he was half joking, but part of him thought seriously about it. Maybe that would be an option, not that he’d enjoy it. “No matter what, I promise I’ll keep you and Charlie safe,” that wasn’t up for negotiation. He lost himself in thought for a moment, drawing patterns absent-mindedly on the skin of her hands, he wanted to break the worry, the tension he could feel radiating from Bella. “So, Bells, what’s on the agenda for today? Your wish is my command,” Jake grinned at her…he hated it when she worried and anything he could do to change that he would. “Although…cliff diving is out I’m afraid,” the memory of that day was still fresh, and he wasn’t keen on re-living it anytime soon. |
