edward anthony cullen rip the wings off a butterfly for you my love general info
personality stubborn - he prefers to think of himself as resolute or steadfast but he is stubborn. edward won't take no for an answer and will do what he must to ensure happiness in his family. he has values and morals and though he finds them somewhat compromised because of his transformation he refuses to give them up. he hopes that he can still be the human he was before the flu changed his life and refuses to be alone. true he isn't quite sure what to do about any affection he is shown by someone that isn't considered family. he's just a stubborn young man who will keep making the same mistakes because he thinks he's right. compassionate - really he is. edward doesn't like seeing someone hurt or suffering. he's got a kind heart and a loving soul even if he disagrees. he's the kind of person who wants to stop the harm from happening rather than trying to fix it once it's past. he doesn't like that he kills animals to eat but he knows they don't suffer much. maybe it's why he tries to be quick when he attacks so that they don't have to suffer much. though the few human's that have ended up his prey haven't been so lucky. he hasn't turned anyone yet, unable to handle knowing that they would be in three days of excruciating pain for no reason other than he was selfish. maybe if they were on the edge of death, and he could justify stealing their soul to save them, perhaps he could be like carlisle then. talented - this much should be a given but it's really a secret. edward has this amazing ability to play the piano. he's got his ear for music and he can almost see the song come alive as his long fingers race over the keys. it's not just piano. though. everything that edward tries he seems to be good at from sports to writing. edward was born talented and now that he gets the chance to live forever he gets to explore his options. he has asked for a piano to be brought into the house he is staying at, but he's not sure if they will allow it. he isn't selfish but this is one thing he really wants. secretive - only in the means of not being able to tell anyone but other vampires what he is. one of the first things he learned about was the volturi and how he needed to avoid angering them. he can't tell anyone that he's not human, so having that secret is hard. edward doesn't think anyone should know who he really is, or what his human name was. perhaps that's why he took cullen so that he could be secret in his name. of course, he kept the edward anthony part just substituted man for cullen. he's secretive in that he's found a human that fascinates him. something about her is different, her blood seems to call to him. he doesn't know her name yet, as he's only just smelled her in passing. brooding - since his turning edward hasn't stopped brooding. he wondered for a while if it would just be him and carlisle who he adopted as a father. then when time joined he was happy to have a mother but what was he supposed to do now? he feels like the third wheel. after all who is going to love him in the state that he's in? the days when he isn't outside you can find him in his room writing in his journals, trying to document his feelings and the human memories he has before they escape him forever. You can see him staring at an old photograph of his mother, father and himself as a young child. he's becoming quite a good brooder. of course, he's quiet and sullen too and that is often mistaken for him being brooding, really he's just being a teenager. misguided - growing up in a christian family, edward was taught morals and values. but how can you justify keeping them when you become something thought of as a demon? he's the walking talking undead. drinks blood to live and has no qualms about killing. perhaps it's that old fashioned upbringing that has him misguided in his understandings. he views himself a monster, someone cursed for all eternity though he cannot understand why. he wasn't a bad child, didn't murder or pillage or do anything of the sort. he finds his situation to be confusing and doesn't understand why anyone would want to be just like them. viewing yourself as a monster isn't easy, especially when you believe it to be the truth. borderline - right now he's trying very hard to follow the vegetarian lifestyle but he keeps slipping up. humans smell so good to him right now and being a newborn he has almost no control over his actions. when you add in his gift, the ability to hear people's thoughts it makes it too easy. humans are the prey he is trying so hard to keep safe but he keeps getting too close. no one wants to be borderline, especially edward but what can you do in a situation like this? carlisle has two hundred plus years more experience on handling the thirst, of fighting it than edward does. a part of him wonders if he's going crazy if he is actually loosing his mind trying to deal with the new situation. having only had four years to cope, there is not enough training for him to handle everything that he's been put through. he will keep trying to stay on the vegetarian lifestyle and hunt down mountain lions. childish - think about it really. edward was seventeen years old when he as turned. he had yet to fully mature, to experience the things that would make him a man. he will forever be locked in that seventeen-year-old body and not really understanding why. he just lost everything, his biological mother and father are dead, victims of influenza, his home now in denali alaska instead of chicago that he knew. he has a mother and a father, both like him but he doesn't want any of it. edward simply wants to be able to be the kid that he will never get to be, to grow up and die and be human again but now that's impossible. he will age by the year but never change physically. BIOGRAPHY edward anthony masen jr. that’s the name on the slightly bent piece of paper that documented his birth. his parents were listed as edward masen Sr. and elizabeth masen both citizens of the up and coming city of chicago illinois. edward masen sr. was a banker and a former soldier, something that earned respect amongst everyone. his mother was a housewife, and proud to be one at least from the appearances she gave off. both of the masen's had wanted a child, had hoped for a son and perhaps a daughter but seeing as it was june twentieth, nineteen oh one, there was no technology to tell them what the gender would be. they could guess of course, by saying that the way she looked, the size she grew too was an indicator and perhaps there was some truth to that. the particular day that both parents found out the gender of their child was a rainy day. as she laid there on that hospital bed, holding her newborn son, elizabeth had been asked his name. his first they had already thought of, edward just like his father, but she wasn't sure what to do for his middle; finally she decided upon anthony, in honor of her father, who would never get to see his grandson.4 five years into his life and edward had not experienced anything major in his life. not that he hated it, of course, he was five after all and probably wouldn't even know what was going on. his mother was still at home and taking care of him, his father still working and bringing in the money needed to keep them in their brownstone. seasons came and went and as each year passed the masen's grew happier to know that their son would survive. birth and death rates during this time were high, and if you could survive as a child past your first five years, there was a good chance you would make it longer. after year six his parents no longer worried quite as much. the family was small, just the three of them but they lived pretty well. the masen family was one of the few that had money but didn't flaunt it. it was against the old fashioned values that they had. at age eight he learned to help his mother plant begonias around the outside of his brownstone, to tend to the weaker of the flowers and watching them grow. there was a lesson in there. that should honor and respect in their lives. it was a trick that edward would learn and employ later in his life. at fifteen edward had already decided that he didn't want to be just like his father. he wanted to be a soldier, not a businessman. joining the army was the way that edward felt he could give back to the society that he had grown to love. of course his father wasn't happy to hear that, wanted his son to follow in his footsteps but it was obvious that edward was stubborn in his views. elizabeth was happy but she wanted her son to get an education, something that those with the money of his generation seemed to do. maybe he could be a doctor or a banker but she wouldn't force him. elizabeth masen loved her son enough that she supported his views and often went to bat for him against his father. no, he has never abused his edward masen sr. did have a temper when it came to not getting his way and his son saw this for the first time at fifteen. at sixteen he had convinced both of his parents that he knew the path he was going to take, and that is also when things started to go downhill for the family. a very nasty illness seemed to sweep through the town almost instantly, influenza they were calling it and there was no known cure. his father, was one of the first ones that started to get sick. and edward and his mother would go visit edward sr but it grew hard to watch his father die. at seventeen edward's life would change forever. his father was gone, killed by the flu but he hadn't expected his mother and himself to come down with it either. at first, it started out as a mild fever, and the chills, so he ignored the symptoms. Every week he got worse and worse as he tried to take care of his mother. by the time that he realized he was too late to keep her from getting sick, both edward and elizabeth were holed up inside the hospital. hundreds of patients littered beds and spread out everywhere, you could hear the coughing and the quiet sobs of the family members. there isn't much from this time that edward remembers, aside from the doctor that looked after him. doctor carlisle cullen was a young man who had a wonderful bedside manner. he always seemed to calm elizabeth down when she was upset about loosing her son, who seemed to be affected by the illness more than she was. it would be dr. cullen that would change edward's life again. as she lay dying, elizabeth pulled carlisle closer to her, begging him to do everything he could to save her son, that edward was only seventeen and still had so much of the world to see. neither of the masen's would have any idea what the ramifications of that promise would be. carlisle kept his promise of course and waited until it was night and no other doctors or nurses were around. he knew he was unique, that he was a vampire. however, he wasn't sure he could actually do what he was about to. this would be his first time to try something, and given the lifestyle he had, it could jeopardize everything. slowly he worked, biting edward as the young man laid there dying. the pain that edward was in from the flu was strong enough that he couldn't feel the fire of the venom at first, as it raced through his veins. the taste of human blood had been foul enough that carlisle had pulled away. he knew that if he was right, in about three days time edward would be just like him. the young man couldn't be left at the hospital, not if he started screaming in pain. so carlisle had taken him out of the hospital to wherever he was staying. after that first day, edward knew that something else was going on with him. no longer did he feel the deliriousness of the fever, pain ripping through him. when his head had cleared two days later, the feeling of being back to himself before he realized that he wasn't at his house. from that moment on, edward learned from carlise what he was. he was taught the way of being vegetarian. it's a struggle for edward, the newborn tendencies he had were controlling him more. it was nineteen eighteen when edward was turned, and it would be just him and carlisle for four years before the family would grow once more. in nineteen twenty-one he would find esme anne platt would be turned by carlisle and would become edward's adoptive mother. in a way, at only seventeen, edward was happy for a mother figure. he had been close to his own mother, and knowing that she had died from the flu was difficult for him. that same year that time joined the family, they moved from chicago to various other cities, one being forks washington. there wasn't a house for them, and esme had asked to have one built. so the process would begin, but they wouldn't stay long. no they headed up to denali aslaska and that is where they are staying now. edward met some friends of carlisle's, others like them that practiced the vegetarian lifestyle. kate, irina, tayna and the others of the denali coven, were a good asset for them. what edward wasn't expecting was for tanya to make known how much she found him attractive. it was strange really, the things he had to deal with, and it wasn't like they didn't expect him to slip up. edward did so; any vampire would except maybe carlisle. in a way, he felt that using his 'gift' to seek out the scum, the criminals that he wasn't really doing evil. if he could feed upon them, and not kill innocents then he was saving both the humans and himself. One of the first people edward sought to destroy was the man that had driven esme to the brink of death.anyone that hurt someone else, out of spite or jealousy edward believed shouldn't exist. his rebellion didn't last long though, maybe five years at the most before he returned to the safety and sanctuary of the cullen house. he wondered though, why they had waited in denali for him to return when they easily could have simply left him to his own devices. Instead, they had been where he had left them, both carlisle and esme accepting him back like the prodigal son. he hadn't been back with them for more than a month when they moved once more. this time to rochester new york. in a way, edward hated all the moving but he understood. the longer they stayed in one place the dangerous it was for them. if people asked the wrong questions life could seriously end. rochester would be their home for several years, the exact number escape edward's mind. however, what he does remember is the newest addition to the family around nineteen thirty three. there in her own home city, rosalie was brutally attacked by her own fiance and left for dead. edward had heard of rosalie hale but had never been swayed by her beauty. she was pretty, he would grant her that but she wasn't the thing he wanted. he had been surprised though when carlisle had found rose, turned her and brought her back to the family. he loved his adoptive father, and though he didn't agree with carlisle's reasons he wasn't going to kick the blonde out of the family. he could love her as a sister only, but not as a mate. she just wasn't the right girl for him. it was nice though to not feel like the third wheel for once, with rose there the family did seem a bit more rounded. of course, with the publicity of the murder of rose's fiance and the gruesome scene, the cullen's couldn't stay. edward didn't want to move again, was tired of packing up and traveling every few years but it was a necessary evil. it gave him perspective, the chance to see parts of the world that he would never have been able to otherwise. this time the family of four would head to the tiny town of forks washington. there was something about the town that spoke to him, the forest and the trees. here edward felt at home, which was strange seeing as his home before then had been denali alaska. the family would build a house one that would be a house to return to every few years. what he hadn't expected was that while out hunting one day they would encounter a group of natives, shifters, who seemed to be scared of them. the deal was struck though, letting them leave as long as they made sure to not cross the boundary set forth. it would be carlilse that would broker the deal, not that edward really had a say in the matters. not too long after this, the family would move again this time to the tennessee area. it was nineteen thirty-five when the family grew again, two years after obtaining rosalie. he had no idea that he was about to get a brother, but he knew something was up. he had heard strange thoughts coming from rose when she returned from an outing. when emmett joined their family edward was ecstatic. to have a mate for rose meant that he no longer had to feel guilty about leaving her to be by herself. she could find that one that would love her for eternity. it made edward feel like an outcast again, as he had no one that he could claim as his mate. things would change again for the cullens about six years later when the two more vampires joined the family, alice cullen and jasper hale, who were already in love with each other, sought out the cullens. finally, edward had both of his sisters and his second brother and he was happy. even when everyone else had a mate, someone to marry and love, edward was still searching. alice's gift would comfort him, knowing that one day he would find her, and she would be his. he wished though, that she could give him all the details he needed but it was impossible. edward was happy when this would be the last major thing that would happen to him until two thousand and three when the family would find themselves once again in forks. he hoped that this would be their last time traveling for a while. it was two thousand and two and he along with his 'siblings' would enroll themselves at forks highschool and once again to pretend to get an education. his father would get a job at the hospital and life would settle itself into a tiny bit of normalcy. that year would be the start of a change that edward wasn't sure he could avoid. with the appearance of one isabella swan into his life things would change drastically. she would be the first human in his long life that would smell irresistible to him. edward would spend the first few months of knowing her, fighting the urge to kill her. it was her blood, it called to him in a way he couldn't explain. he never expected to fall for her, to have her be the one that would be his final. that first year with bella was rocky, he could feel the tension she hid from her friendship with jacob black and the other shifters at the la push rez. edward would spend his time trying to keep her safe, looking out for her while trying to understand why he couldn't read her thoughts. that year was nothing but edward trying to protect her, and when he failed to do so from james it hurt him more than he wanted to admit. he had almost been too late to stop the hunter, to pull the venom out of her. he had been tempted to take alice's suggestion, to let it turn bella but he didn't want her a monster like himself. he would succeed at saving her but try to encourage her to leave him. he was dangerous to her. the second year that bella was in his life he left her for a good portion of it. it had been a party for her, her birthday, something that vampires didn't really celebrate when she had cut her finger open. the smell of her blood was rich and thick in the air and jasper hadn't been the only one struggling to keep from attacking her. he couldn't handle that his family might be torn apart over this one incident so they left. it tore him apart to know that he was leaving behind the one girl that meant the world to him. she would be safe he had thought, with jacob black and her other friends. of course, that pain that he was carrying was far more than anyone would give him credit for. edward truly did love bella with every part of his existence and yet he was willing to give her up, for now, if it meant she could be happy and safe. when she had come to find him in italy, and stop him from killing himself he regretted it. the events involved the volturi and now they would pay for it all. edward had agreed to change her, but when they returned to forks, bella had left him for jacob. his own heart ripped out once more. why? he did not understand. it was not as if he purposely sought to do these things. he just wanted to live his life and not be the only one in his family that was alone. | ooc info ☆
