personality There are two sides to Kim. The side that everyone around her sees and the side that she works so hard to hide and keep locked away. It is almost as if she wears a mask. Not that she means to lie or hurt anyone, just that she wants to keep her true feelings locked away. A part of this stems from an incident in her childhood. Something that touched her and she never quite got over. There's some emotional scarring that she never told anyone about, but she has a feeling that certain people know and humor her anyway. The Kim that you see in public is a bright young woman with a kind smile who often tries too hard to be noticed. She is not in your face about it, but she will interrupt conversations or sit with you at lunch and quiz you about your day. She does not mean to be intrusive; she just has not learned how now to be. Kim is a gentle woman who wants nothing more than to find her path in life and find one person out there that loves her. When things started changing in the reservation, Kim made it clear that if anyone needed an ear to talk to or a shoulder to cry on she was around. It was also quite obvious that she had a huge crush on Jared Cameron for quite some time. The Kim that no one sees is a young woman full of pain and regret. Her life as a child was not easy, and she claims to be too young to remember most of it. That is a lie, of course, but no one would believe her. She keeps her true feelings. Kim feels like an outsider even though she was born on the reservation, but with the events of her family that caused so much grief, she feels out of place. There's a darkness inside of her that she fights, a darkness that makes her have severe bouts of depression. Everyone thinks Kim is shy. She's not just lost in her depression and fighting hard to get herself out of it on her own. She has no family support on this matter. BIOGRAPHY Kimberly Tara Connweller was born the only child of her mother, Natalya and her father, John. Her birth was a difficult one for her parents, and sadly, Natalya found out soon after that she would not be able to have any more children. As an infant a toddler, Kimberly did not know that her parents blamed her. She just thought that her mommy was sad all the time and her daddy was angry. It was just how things went in her life. At the age of five, Kim was faced with the dangerous reality of death. She was coming back inside from playing out in the yard with some kids from school, looking for a snack when she found her. Her mother was dead. Screaming, Kim ran from the house and to the neighbors where she was in complete tears over what happened. Of course, trying to talk to a five-year-old who was crying was almost impossible until they calmed down. When the neighbor got Kim under control enough, they walked her to her house where they also discovered her mother and called for help. Her father was called and asked to come home, but no one could find him. At least, not for a while. It was hard the little girl did not know what happened to her mother and had no idea where her daddy was. She thought he was at work. That's where he told her he was going when he had left that morning. While they tried to find her father, Kim stayed with the neighbor family until they could find someone. Months pass, and it is clear that she is not wanted at the neighbors, they had too many mouths to feed. Finally, they were able to get ahold of her grandmother, who made the trip from Ontario to La Push to take care of Kim and keep her at her home. Her grandmother, Nona, as she called her, did not want to rip Kim away from the life she had at such a young age, so she moved officially to La Push to raise her. At the age of seven, it was clear that Kim's dad was not coming back and she found out from her grandmother what happened. Apparently, they blamed her for their inabilty to have any more children and her father wanted a son to carry on the name. He was not going to get that. So he grew angry and took his anger out on her mother. They cannot prove the attack that killed her came from Kim's father but everyone suspects it. By the time she was a teenager, Kim knew that everyone on the rez knew what happened to her family. It was what started the dark thoughts in her mind. Her grandmother is old, far too old to be raising a teenager and Kimberly understands the sacrifice she is making. It hurts her heart to see her grandmother struggle and not be able to truly fix it. What is she supposed to do? She's not even fully grown yet but thought of as an adult in most ways by her people. At the age of fourteen, Kim started to have a crush on one of the boys at her school, Jared. She doubted he would ever pay her any attention, but it didn't matter. She would hold out hope that one day, someone would love her for who she was and not blame her for the bad things that happened in her life. Kimberly still felt responsible for what happened to her mother, even though she had been told it was not her fault. There is one thing that Kim has done that no one knows about. She emancipated herself. Her grandmother did not wish to take care of her anymore and wanted to move back to Ontario where her friends were. Kim, felt like she was old enough to take care of herself and if anyone asked she would just say that her grandmother was out of town visiting friends. They did not have to know that she no longer had family that lived with her or wanted to care for her. The emancipation process was easy enough and she's been hiding it from the people on the reservation ever since then. Now at sixteen, Kim is struggling. She lives on her own and has a job that allows her to pay the bills for her tiny house but people are starting to ask questions about where her grandmother is. They don't believe that she is always traveling. Her excuses are running out and with the knowledge of what Jared is and who she is to him, along with his secret she has no idea what she's doing.
